Appraisals

Learn what your heirlooms and antiques are worth. Two kinds of appraisal, depending on what you need it for.

Free

Every Thursday in Amesbury

Bring your pieces to the galleries at 76 Main Street any Thursday. Presale estimates, whether verbal or by email, are always free. They aren't researched, but they give you a good sense of market value.

Can't come in? Send a good photo with the condition, dimensions and anything you know about where it came from.

Formal written appraisals

A researched, written report for when the number has to hold up. Clients use them to prepare for:

  • Charitable donations
  • Equitable distribution
  • Estate tax
  • Fair market analysis
  • Insurance
  • Investment
  • Liquidation
  • Loan collateral
  • Price confirmation

Estate auctions and liquidations

When an estate includes more than its contents, such as vehicles, commercial equipment or business furnishings, we may recommend an on-site auction.

We work to a set timeline and take complete responsibility, from signing the listing agreement through the sale itself: appraisal, preparing the property, marketing and auction day.

A whole collection

For a large collection, estate contents or a business inventory, a representative will come to you.

Gallery or on site

Auctions and sealed bids run at our Amesbury galleries or at your location, whichever suits the property.

How you're paid and protected

The details consignors ask about most, answered before you sign.

  • Escrowed proceeds

By law, every consignment dollar goes into an escrow account. Consignors are usually paid no later than 30 business days after sale proceeds are collected, with full records at settlement.

  • Confidential reserves

An item can carry a confidential minimum price. If bidding stops short of it, the auctioneer buys it in rather than selling below your number.

  • Bonded, licensed and insured

Your property is insured the whole time it is in our Amesbury galleries.

  • Cleaning and repair

Polishing, small repairs and restoration can be arranged to help your pieces bring more at auction.

  • Getting it here

We can arrange to have your items delivered to the galleries in Amesbury.

  • Consultation first

Before anything is signed, we talk through the right venue, fees and marketing. Every fee is disclosed up front.

For buyers

Everyone registers to bid and agrees to the sale's terms before getting a bidder number. Each catalog prints its own terms, which are also posted in the gallery and online.
